Or better yet, stop using the first person point of view altogether. Of course, that's just my personal preference, and I realize it would mean the end to 95% of the YA fiction out there.
Maybe, as readers, we simply need to lower our expectations and get hep to the QOWICFP (Quasi-Omniscient-When-It's-Convenient-First-Person) POV trend.
I never thought the first person was that difficult, but I don't use it often myself because I have this *thing* where I try to decide the best POV for a story. I like limited third particularly because it allows multiple POVs. That said, first person has its uses, particularly when the author wants to control exactly what the reader knows and when, such as in detective fiction.
But it's not quite as abused third person omniscient...ulp!
